One of Wales’ oldest lighthouses, Point of Ayr Lighthouse, also known as Talacre Lighthouse, appears marooned off the coast of North Wales. Historically Chester was a thriving port and navigation relied on lights at Whitford Garn in Flintshire and Hillbre Island on the Wirral, that was until the tragic loss of two ships headed for Dublin in 1776 resulted in its construction to warn ships entering between the Dee and the Mersey Estuary. It was replaced by a pile light and was decommissioned in 1844.
Point of Ayr Lighthouse is said to be one of the most haunted structures in North Wales. Many sightings of a keeper on top of the lighthouse have been reported. Mediums have described sensing a presence of a man who had his heart broken. Others pick up the feeling of a man with a fever, reportedly how the old keeper Raymond passed.
Apart from its supernatural history, the lighthouse’s other call to fame featuring in the background in a 2011 TV advertisement by paint manufacturer Dulux.
